Raising children with a Christian world view is very important at Faith Christian Academy. Students begin each day with a Bible lesson. Once a week students attend a chapel service led by the pastor of Faith Presbyterian Church.  Hiding God's word in one's heart is accomplished through Bible memorization.  Memory work may be a verse or a basic Christian knowledge such as learning the twelve disciples or the books of the Old and New Testament. The NIV translation of the Bible is used for memory work. Younger students use age appropriate Bible stories.

Faith Christian Academy uses various curricula to aid in teaching. After a thorough review of available resources, the faculty at FCA found that these curricula provided the level of academic excellence to which we hold our students.

For social studies and history, Abeka and Bob Jones University Press are used. These faith based curricula show how God has moved through time to accomplish His will.  For example, students in the third grade learn how Squanto was captured in America, taken back to England, and sold to monks as a slave. Later Squanto returned to his homeland, and because he could speak English, he was able to help the Pilgrims survive their first winter in the new land.  What men meant for evil, God used to accomplish His plan.  We are proud that many of our students have captured top awards for their participation in the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) annual historical writing contests, with several winning state awards.

Science is taught using either Christian Schools International or Bob Jones (BJU Press) curriculum.  These curricula are also faith based, and show how God created the entire universe for His glory.  For example, in the third grade students learn about the different habitats such as rainforests, tundra, deserts, and temperate deciduous forests.  They also learn how God has adapted each of the animals to live in their habitat.  Each year students in grades 3-8 participate in the science fair.  School winners advance to the state level of competition, where many have come away with top awards.

For reading, FCA uses Silver, Burdett, and Ginn. For English classes, Houghton Mifflin is used.  Spelling For Writing is the source of our spelling curriculum.  Letter formation and penmanship are emphasized throughout the early grades and cursive handwriting is introduced in the third grade.  In the upper grades, classic literature is used as a foundation for writing papers and learning different styles of writing.  Each year, a school wide spelling bee is held.  The school winner advances to the Scripps Howard Bee in Charlotte, N.C.

For math, 1st through 3rd grades use a combination of hands-on manipulatives and text materials.  In 4th grade, Hands-On Equations is added to introduce Algebra concepts.  The text for 1st - 4th grades is from Sadlier and The Mathematics Experience by Houghton Mifflin is used for 5th through 6th gradesPre-Algebra begins in 7th grade and Algebra is taught in 8th grade from a text by Larson.

At FCA, we also feel that field trips are an excellent way to take learning outside of the classroom.  Each class has several field trips throughout the year related to topics which the students have learned about in class.  For example, the first grade travels to the North Carolina Zoo while studying a unit on mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Third graders have an overnight trip in Charleston and at least two day trips to Columbia to reinforce their study of South Carolina.  Students in fourth grade spend several days on a barrier island while studying the tidal marsh habitat.
